Texas Physicians and Physician Assistants, the Texas Medical Board posted guidance FAQs on supervision following Governor Abbott’s recent waiver announcement allowing for more flexibility between physicians and the PAs and Advance Practice Registered Nurses they supervise.

Governor Abbott also waived regulations to expand the health care workforce to assist with Texas’ COVID-19 response. These waivers allow certain pending licensure applicants, affected by and/or wanting to assist with the response to COVID-19, the ability to obtain a temporary emergency license under the supervision of a licensed Texas physician. This applies to pending applicants who have met all but the examination and/or fingerprint requirements and otherwise qualify for a full license. As the COVID-19 public health disaster is a rapidly evolving event, the TMB encourages licensees to continue visiting its website for the agency’s most up-to-date information and guidance.
