COVID-19 Reminders on Testing Information and Board Rules

To All Licensees,

As you are aware, COVID-19 cases are on the rise throughout the state. TMB appreciates what all of its licensees have been doing to help manage this pandemic. These are certainly unusual times for all of us.  We know that many of you are working around the clock under challenging conditions to help care for so many Texans. There are a couple of reminders we would like to pass along.

First, we would like to remind you to help the state by ensuring you are collecting all patient demographic information as needed when collecting testing samples.  Some labs have reported receiving incomplete patient demographic information.  While that may not negatively impact the care for that individual patient, it does negatively impact the state’s and nation’s attempts to learn more about the virus and impacted populations, and in turn make sound policy decisions.

More information can be found here:

Second, please remember that it is a Board rule to wear a mask while you or a delegate are in close proximity to a patient, and you must be masked with an N95 or equivalent during an aerosolizing procedure. It is crucial that we all do whatever we can to minimize the spread of this virus.
TMB is grateful for all of the work each of you have done to continue caring for Texans. Please everyone stay safe, stay socially distanced, as difficult as it is, and please continue to wear a mask to protect yourself, your patients, and your team!
Very Respectfully,
Dr. Sherif Zaafran, Texas Medical Board President

Stephen Brint Carlton, Texas Medical Board Executive Director
